Prozac: Why it’s Essential to Know about Side Effects
Despite of the benefits which every medicine has, there are also some side effects, which are recommended to know about. Prozac is no exception. If your general practitioner prescribed you Prozac, it’s recommended to get acquainted with its sideway actions. There are three reasons why it is advantageous for your health to know about them. Firstly, if you are already taking some drug, the new one can be incompatible with the first drug and some problems in your body and health may arise. So, knowing the information about side effects of a new drug you can prevent this disorder by consulting your doctor. Secondly, if you feel that you begin to suffer from some mild sideway actions after you start taking drug, you already know that they could take place and there is no reason for worrying. And finally thirdly, if there arise some severe side effects, which are not common while taking this medicine, and you are aware that they can do some harm to your health, you can promptly visit a doctor and, if it’s necessary, stop taking this particular drug. People who already take drugs containing thioridazine, pimozide or monoamine oxidase inhibitors are not recommended to take Prozac, because in such cases Prozac is a contraindicative drug. Prozac will also do harm to people who are suffering from liver impairment and are under its treatment. When a person is taking Prozac, fluoxetine and norfluoxetine are got out of person’s body two times slowly in comparison with a person who doesn’t take Prozac. So, the prescription and consumption of Prozac should be done carefully.

There also can arise some sideway actions in sexual function of a patient like inorgasmia or reduced venereal desire, but they are a rare occurrence, the same as in case with taking other SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors).
Prozac: Rare Sideway Actions
While taking Prozac, there can also arise such side effects like urticaria or rash. Sometimes these side effects can deteriorate and lead a patient to stop Prozac treatment. These rashes and their deterioration can result in different complications at the worst, like LE syndrome (or lupus-like syndrome) or vasculitis. So, if you are taking Prozac and you have found out that a rash appeared on your body, don’t hesitate and consult your doctor immediately: maybe Prozac is unsuitable for you.
Prozac and New Mothers and Pregnant Women
Prozac is not usually prescribed to new mothers and pregnant women. New mothers, who feed their babies at the breast, are not recommended to take Prozac, because such component as fluoxetine is evolved in mother’s milk. Also, if a pregnant woman is taking Prozac, the chance of bad or wrong neonatal adaptation of a baby increases.
